IHSA 1A State Cross Country Meet
Newton senior Layna Marshall capped off her high school cross country career with an outstanding performance at the IHSA 1A State Meet, crossing the finish line in 18:45.71.
Marshall, a four-year runner for the Eagles, represented Newton with grit and focus on the state’s biggest stage, delivering one of her strongest races of the season in her final appearance.
Head Coach Tim Bower praised Marshall’s impact on the program, saying, “Layna has been the heart of our program for years. She leads by example, she trains with purpose, and she races with every ounce of determination she has. Watching her finish her career on the state course with one of her best times yet was incredibly special. She’s left a standard of work ethic and toughness that our younger runners will look up to for a long time.”
Marshall’s performance closed out a standout senior season and marked a fitting final chapter for one of Newton’s most consistent and determined runners.
