Lexi Marshall Commits to OCC Music Program

Lexi Marshall, daughter of Chad and Jennifer Marshall, will be attending Olney Central College where she will perform in the concert and community choirs.

What other sports and activities – clubs, organizations, groups (in and out of school) have you been in during your time at NCHS? Clubs:

I have participated in 4 years of color guard, 4 musicals in the cast, 2 years of IMEA, 2 years of Solo and Ensemble, and was on the worship team at Scott Avenue Christian Church for 4 years. I have been in Science, Spanish, Math, and BETA clubs throughout high school.

What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?

I decided to go to OCC because they had the main classes that I needed to take in order to be able to further my education in the best possible way.

How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?

NCHS has prepared me by offering dual credit classes so I can reach my goal quicker than I would have without the classes. All the teachers have helped me and taught me to the best of their ability and I thank all of them for helping me.

What are at least two life lessons you have learned from your musical time at NCHS ?

I have learned that if I work hard enough and if I am passionate enough about something, then I can achieve the goal I strive for. I have also learned that if you are going to make a mistake, own it. If you mess up in life you need to be able to use it and learn from it. Whether it’s a mistake on the field or on the stage don’t show on your face that you messed up and use it to make you stronger.

How have your instructors and/or directors helped prepare you to perform at a collegiate level?

Absolutely! Honestly without Mr. Finley, Kristie Finley, Carrie Carr, and so many others outside musical and guard I would not be where so am today. Yes they helped me perform better but they also taught me how to take criticism and correction in the best way. Those people have helped me almost every step of the way and I appreciate them so much.

What will you miss the most next year about not being a Newton Eagle?

I will miss the people that I walked the halls with. Students and teachers alike. Being out of school had really made me appreciate all the things I took for granted. I miss smiling and greeting my friends and teachers as I pass them on my way to class. There were so many people in NCHS that I wish I could thank and talk to one more time.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank every single teacher that has taught me throughout high school. I would also like to thank Mrs. Probst for the amazing job she has done in supporting all of the students at NCHS. I will always remember her hugging me  and telling me “Good job” after I sang the National Anthem at games. She really does care for the students at NCHS and deserves so much thanks for all she does.
