The Christmas Lights in Peterson Park Project Committee has been spearheaded by Andre and Debra Leachman, tourism council member Donna Coad, and the Embarras River Tourism Council. The City of Newton has graciously agreed to allow the event to occur inside Peterson Park and is assisting with the technical aspects of the project.
“The community has shown overwhelming support for this project and we would like to thank everyone for their support throughout. We hope to see this project grow for many years to come and bring joy to not only the residents of Jasper County, but also those who come to visit as well.” Debra Leachman.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the City Council, Electric, and Parks departments for all their assistance thus far and in the future.
The lights will be on display from November 27th through January 1st on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm to 10pm. You will enter from the Marion and Scott Avenue entrance and exit along highway 130 across from the motel.
Any business, organization, or individual who would like to assist during the event, provide monetary assistance for a display, or offer other assistance please contact Debra Leachman at 618-843-3036 or message the Embarras River Tourism Council Facebook page.
The Embarras River Tourism Council will also be working with local community members to decorate the courthouse lawn and possibly light up the Old Embarras River Bridge which is now part of the Eagle Trails. If you would like to assist with these projects contact Mindy Hartke at 618-783-9405 or message the Embarras River Tourism Council Facebook page.
