Lois Marie Strole age 97, of Newton

Lois Marie Strole age 97, of Newton passed away March 13, 2023, in her home at the Villas.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Lois will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 17 at the First Baptist Church, Newton, Illinois with Rev. Steve Willis officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.

Lois was born on February 20, 1926 in a log cabin in Jasper County, Illinois the daughter of Dee and Viola Johnson. On October 15, 1944, Lois married her sweetheart Neil Weber Strole. Lois was a devoted wife and mother. She was Neil’s main confidant, friend, advisor, and business partner. Their many business ventures included a pet store, motels, Western Auto Store, real estate, insurance, and Neil’s Wheels for over 67 years.

Lois was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Newton including the Women’s Missionary Society.  She enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her roses, cooking for her family, canning, quilting and various volunteer work.

Lois will be loved and remembered by her sons Rick Strole of Newton, IL, Jeff Strole of Terre Haute, IN, Emery (Liz) Strole of Denver, CO; daughters Glenna McGuire and Stacey Strole both of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great great-child and another great-great due in September; siblings Ruth Hutchinson of Colorado Springs, CO; Delain Johnson of Urbana, IL, Paul Johnson of Newton, IL, Zana (Kendall) Tarr of Newton, IL, Cheryl Dunn of Myrtle Beach, SC and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband Neil, daughter-in-law Eileen Strole, son-in-law Dennis McGuire and siblings Donald Johnson, Cloyce Johnson, Madonna Klier, and Rita Pickens preceded her in death.

Memorial gifts honoring Lois may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund.

  1. We are all sad to learn Aunt Lois is no longer with us on earth, but we know she is in God’s arms now. She was a giving and talented lady. Our visits with her and your family in IL and CO were always highlights for us.
