NEWTON, IL — The Newton Police Department, with assistance from the Jasper County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, executed a major drug seizure on Friday, September 26th, after an investigation at a local hotel resulted in the recovery of over 7.5 pounds of Methamphetamine.
The seizure took place at the Cobblestone Hotel and Suites in Newton. The investigation began after hotel staff became suspicious of two guests who failed to adhere to the designated check-out time. This alert ultimately led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics, according to a hotel representative.
Following the seizure, authorities arrested and detained two suspects connected to the incident.
While two individuals have been taken into custody, the Newton Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the source and scope of the drug operation is continuing.
The Newton Police Department reminds the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
