Marching Eagles Prepare for Chicago and Disney

Photos: Barry Houser, director of the University of Illinois Marching Illini visited Newton Community High School to work with the Marching Eagles as they prepare for their upcoming trip to Chicago and Disney.

The Newton Marching Eagles will be leaving on November 18th to head to Chicago to march in the Magnificent Mile Festivity of Lights parade. This honor is bestowed on only three marching bands from across the country and will be nationally televised.

The Newton Marching Eagles will then leave Chicago on November 19th to head to Orlando where the students will march at Magic Kingdom on November 20th at 5:45 pm.

Before they leave, the Marching Eagles will be practicing one final time on Washington Ave on Thursday, November 16th from the first block East of the School to just past St. Thomas beginning at 12:40 pm.

Community members are welcome to come and watch their final practice and “send them off” with local community support.

The students, parents, and staff have been preparing for this self-funded trip. Through fundraisers, donations, hard work, and payments by parents and students, the trip is funded through the band boosters and the attending members.

In preparation for this trip, the NCHS Marching Eagles had the opportunity to learn from Barry Houser, director of the University of Illinois Marching Illini. Mr. Houser was able to listen to the students play their parade music for Chicago and offer suggestions for a better performance as well as listen to the 2023 marching season music.
