Meinhart’s Pitching Leads Eagles to Regional Championship

Max Meinhart had all the right stuff on Thursday for Newton Varsity Eagles, allowing zero runs and besting Marshall Varsity Lions by a score of 3-0

The pitching was strong on both sides. Meinhart struck out six, while Ross sat down five.

Newton Varsity Eagles got things moving in the first inning, when Owen Mahaffey singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

One bright spot for Marshall Varsity Lions was a single by Francis in the second inning.

Meinhart was credited with the victory for Newton Varsity Eagles. The righty allowed three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out six.

Ross took the loss for Marshall Varsity Lions. The pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five.

Newton Varsity Eagles tallied eight hits on the day. David Ferguson and Payton Harris each racked up multiple hits for Newton Varsity Eagles. Ferguson led Newton Varsity Eagles with three hits in three at bats. Newton Varsity Eagles didn’t commit a single error in the field. Gage Reynolds had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
