On October 22, the Newton Rotary Club welcomed singer/songwriter Micahlan Boney, an up-and-coming 18-year-old singer/songwriter, who is visiting our area during October. She gave a free concert at the high school auditorium on Monday, October 21, and played at several schools, facilities for senior citizens, and the LIFE Cafe on the Square. Sponsored by Poss Music Works in Effingham, and locally by Jasper County Unit #1 and the Embarras River Tourism Council, she will be visiting various venues in the counties of Effingham, Jasper, and Clay, for a few days each during the month of October, as she has been in our area to perform at the Wander Down Music Festival near Makanda, IL, and visited Newton following the festival.
To say Micahlan is multi-talented is an understatement, demonstrating she is skilled at playing several instruments and many different genres of music. She writes her own original music but also does covers of familiar tunes. She splits her time between living in Georgia and in Nashville, TN, and has played on the road for many live shows and festivals. You can find out more about her here: https://micahlanboney.com/ about, and you can follow her on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ mikemeeksboney. You can also watch many of her videos on YouTube.
She has a brand new music video for her original song “Do Right” which should be posted on YouTube soon. She is in mid-production of her first album in Nashville.
She enjoys playing the fiddle in non-conventional ways by using looping technology and also by covering artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, and Gloria Gaynor. Her shows are family-friendly and politically-neutral.
Chairperson for the day was Rotarian Louise Lybarger, who serves on the Embarras River Tourism Council and Poss Music Works. (Submitted by Louise Lybarger)
