Each Monday between now and the opening of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on March 26th we will be featuring Musical Monday. This week we will continue highlighting our NCHS Seniors who are casted in the 2020 NCHS Musical with Senior Dustin Kuhl.
In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Dustin will portray a brother, and the Baker. Dustin is the son of Anne Kuhl.
I’ve been in the Wizard of Oz as an ensemble member, Music Man as an ensemble member, and Cinderella as an ensemble member.
What was your favorite musical and why?
Cinderella, because it’s my personal favorite musically.
What scene in Joseph is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)
My favorite so far is “Stone the Crows”, due to the fact that it’s the funniest to me.
What are three things being in the musical have taught you? and how have you learned these?
One thing I’ve definitely gained is the fact that deadlines are much more important than they seem. Deadlines are super important to the show as they can make or break the show if we don’t hit the deadlines set for us. Another thing that I’ve learned is that you don’t have to get along well with everyone, as long as you’re civil. If I don’t agree with someone, that’s fine, as long as I know that we can agree to disagree and continue working well. The last thing is that you have to try your best at everything you do. If someone isn’t trying their best, it’s really obvious and brings down everyone else.
What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?
Don’t be afraid to take the first step and try out. If you don’t try out, then you’ll never know if you could’ve made it and done well. That first step is the most important one.
What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?
Balance is the main quality I hope to take with me. The balance between a professional workplace and the fun times is important and all of the adults helping us have shown this. All of them know when to joke around, but also know when we actually need to work and get down to business. That quality makes the show better for everyone there, and I want to take that with me when I graduate.
What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?
