Musical Monday: McCrae Goodwin

Each Monday between now and the opening of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on March 26th we will be featuring Musical Monday. This week we will continue highlighting our NCHS Seniors who are casted in the 2020 NCHS Musical with Senior McCrae Goodwin.

In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat McCrae will portray the wife of Josephs’s brother Levi. McCrae is the daughter of Scott Goodwin and Lisa Goodwin.

The following are McCrae’s answers to the questionnaire we provided.

What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?

I have been in The Music Man, The Little Mermaid, and Cinderella. In The Music Man I was a River City Kid, in The Little Mermaid I was a sea creature and in Cinderella, I was a dancer.

What was your favorite musical and why?

What was your favorite musical and why? I would have to say that The Music Man was my favorite. The era that musical was set in is one of my favorites.  I made many friendships with students that I’m still friends with today.

What scene in Joseph is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)

My favorite scene in Joseph is Stone the Crows. This scene is where all the girls get to have fun. We get to crowd around Joseph and sing to him about how thankful we are for him because he saved Egypt. I feel like the crowd is going to enjoy this scene because Joseph’s reactions to us swooning over him are hilarious.

What are three things being in the musical have taught you? and how have you learned these?

I’ve learned discipline, that the show must go on, and how awesome it is to apart of something amazing as it all comes together. They directors push all the cast hard to do our very best. Even when things have gotten a little tough, the show must go on. At first, it’s hard to imagine what the scenes are going to be like, but as we go on, all the scenes come together and turn out to be really amazing and fun.

What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?

For those that are going to start performing in musicals, work hard and make the best out of performing. The musical is a lot of work, you will need to give your absolute best. Always have a great attitude because it is a privilege to be apart of the show regardless.

What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?

The adults that help with show push all the cast to work hard and do our best and it takes great patience to do so, plus they sacrifice time away from their family to make the show as best as possible. And those that are behind the scenes, like the costumes and stage crew, also sacrifice time away from their families to help. They are always so positive and encouraging even behind the scenes.

What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?

I think the one thing I am going to miss most is the close friendships that I have made over the last 4 years. Especially with the underclassman, I have gotten close with a lot of them and I love the friendships that I have gained. Being around a musical family is so much fun and I have made so many memories.

Opening Night for the NCHS musical will be March 26th at 7pm. Performances will also be held on March 27th at 7pm, March 28th at 7pm and March 29th at 2 pm.
