Andrew Tarr, son of Dr. Brett and Lori Tarr, will perform the role of Lumiére in the NCHS Musical production of Beauty and the Beast on April 7th through 10th.
What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?
I was in the ensemble in Cinderella, Naphtali and the Butler in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Phil Davis in White Christmas.
What was your favorite musical and why?
White Christmas was my favorite musical because we were a very tight knit cast and we had so much fun together and we were really close.
What scene in Beauty and the Beast is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)
My favorite scene in Beauty and the Beast is Be Our Guest because it’s such a fun, iconic scene and song and I think the audience will love this number.
What are two life lessons you have learned from the directors?
Two life lessons I have learned from our directors is “everything is an audition” and “everyone’s replaceable”.
Excluding the directors, what qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?
The adults involved in this show put in so much effort. Our main piano accompanist, Dawn, practices outside of musical and she does amazing at every practice. Our costumers put in so much effort to make sure our costumes fit perfectly and look amazing at the same time, and they always deliver. Props to Janice Hammer and Valerie Clark for making my costume and Connie Wagy for sewing the buckles on my shoes when one broke.
What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?
I will miss being on stage with all of my fellow cast mates and the quality of entertainment the shows Newton Community High School produces.
