NCHS Beauty and the Beast: Senior Cast Member Lily Bierman

Lily Bierman, the daughter of Ben and Jill Bierman, will portray Mrs. Potts in the NCHS musical production of Beauty and the Beast on April 7th through 10th.

What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?
I was a townsperson child in “The Music Man”, Marta in “The Sound of Music”, a dancer in “Cinderella”, a dream dancer in both productions of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat”, Betty is “White Christmas” and Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast”.
What was your favorite musical and why?
My favorite musical by far has been White Christmas, every person in the musical was so great for their part, and with the musical being during an odd time of the year compared to usual we had a lot more freedom to make it our own and play with how we portrayed our characters. Also being close with the cast made being on stage so much more fun.
What scene in Beauty and the Beast is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)
Throughout the show, I think especially the little kids will like recognizing the familiar songs that are more popular. That being said I think the “Tale as Old as Time” scene is my favorite. The whole atmosphere of the scene with the song, dance, and turning point of the show is great.
What are two life lessons you have learned from the directors? (Jeffrey, Kristie, and Carrie)?
A life lesson I have learned is that everyone is replaceable so to do your best, and another is to always value your time because sometimes other people won’t.
Excluding the directors (Jeffrey, Kristie, and Carrie)  What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities? – Feel free to name the adults or group of adults)
Something a lot of people don’t realize is the time, work, and effort that is put into these productions, and that a majority of that never comes from the kids or directors. Another is that at the end of every show we gesture to the pit then the sound box, and then the light box. This is to thank all of the people that get us to where we are. Especially with a big cast and popular show like “Beauty and the Beast”, the customers and set construction workers put in so many hours to make it all come together. Shout out to Jeremy Wilson, our master of sound! He is the absolute best and the show wouldn’t be possible without him. It’s always great getting a big wave from him in the soundbox at the end of the shows. Overall we have great parents and adults surrounding us making these musicals as great as they are.
What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?
Although I don’t even want to think about it ending, there are so many things I will miss about being in these productions. I think the biggest thing is not being able to perform with my peers anymore. Musicals are something I will always love but being in them with this group of kids will never compare. I have been performing with some of these theater geeks for over ten years, so when the final curtain closes that chapter does too. This time in our lives is crazy but being with the people I am in musical will always be something I can look back on. I have been heavily involved in the music program all four years of my high school career and I am always pumped to let a crowd see the hard work I have put into a project. I hope everyone enjoys this show and shares the fun I have being on stage with all of my peers doing what I love!
