Natalee Colwell, daughter of Brad and Dawn Colwell, will be takig the stage as a silly girl in the NCHS musical production of Beauty and the Beast on April 7th through 10th.
“I have been casted in Music Man as a River City kid, Mary Poppins as a towns person, Cinderella as a towns folk, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat both years as Gad’s wife and dancer, then lastly I performed in White Christmas as Rhoda.”
White Christmas has hands down been my favorite musical. The tap dancing made the show enjoyable and how close the cast was made each practice fun.
My favorite part of Beauty and the Beast would have to be most scenes with Lumière and Cogsworth. The way they interact with each other and how the actor/actress present these characters make the scenes comical.
Kristie has taught me to never give up. Through all the dancing practices her determination towards us kids to be great and to have fun shows how much she truly cares about us. Her speeches on how great we can be pushes the cast to put on an amazing show. Carrie has taught me to give criticism in a sweet tone of voice. Every person has flaws and doesn’t naturally have their character perfect at first but as Carrie helps you throughout practices with her advice you become perfect. And I can’t just leave Jeffery out, so thank you Mr. Finley for teaching me how to make a perfect cup of coffee.
To the other helpers I can’t say thank you enough. They have helped put together 2 musicals in the matter of 6 months. Costumes, set construction, special effects, all of it. It comes together and makes the NCHS musicals what they are and none of that wouldn’t have been possible without their determination. They want this show to be amazing just as much as the cast, so they come in early, stay late, come on Saturday’s for 6 hours working for this show to be amazing. I will not forget the hard work and dedication that I will take with me in life.
What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?
The most important thing I will miss about being musical is the family-like bond you grow with all of the people involved in the productions. You spend continuous time together for 4 months and it’s so easy to grow strong bonds with the cast. I will also miss performing. The feeling I get from being on stage in front of a crowd is the reason why I keep doing these musicals. It’s easy to say that I will miss performing in the NCHS musical productions.
