NCHS Eagles JV Soar to Back-to-Back Wins With Grit and Clutch Performances

The NCHS Eagles JV baseball team put together a strong showing this past week, earning back-to-back victories with a dramatic 9-8 walk-off win over Flora JV on Monday, followed by a composed 6-2 triumph over Charleston JV on Friday.

Monday Madness: Walk-Off Thriller vs. Flora JV

In one of their most exciting games of the season, NCHS Eagles JV walked it off in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Flora JV 9-8. With the game tied at eight, Cylas Dickerson came through in the clutch, lacing a single that scored the game-winning run.

Dickerson had a standout day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with singles in the fourth, fifth, and the all-important eighth innings. His walk in the sixth also helped NCHS tie the game, as the team rallied with patience and grit, drawing nine walks overall.

Despite an early 4-0 deficit after Flora JV jumped ahead with runs in the second and third innings—highlighted by a Croy triple and Colclasure single—NCHS kept fighting. In total, the Eagles racked up 13 hits, with Carter Barthelme, Eli Wolf, and Jackson James each collecting multiple hits.

Amos Mahaffey provided crucial stability out of the bullpen, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief while allowing no hits and striking out five. Maddox Horner started for NCHS and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits.

Flora JV had offensive highlights of their own. Himelick went 3-for-5, and Warren stole three bases while driving in two runs. In total, Flora swiped six bases, but it wasn’t enough to keep NCHS from stealing the win.

Friday Finish: Eagles Down Charleston JV 6-2

NCHS Eagles JV carried the momentum into Friday’s matchup, controlling the game from the mound and at the plate in a 6-2 win over Charleston JV.

After an early 2-1 deficit, NCHS struck for three runs in the bottom of the third. Jackson James drove in one with a single to center, Cylas Dickerson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and a wild pitch allowed another run to score, giving the Eagles a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Carter Barthelme was dominant on the mound, going the distance with a complete game. He allowed just four hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out five and walking none—a sharp, efficient outing that kept Charleston hitters off balance.

Offensively, James led the way again, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Chance Mulvey also added two hits as the Eagles totaled nine for the game.

Charleston JV’s #22 had a solid game from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3, but their offense couldn’t find enough rhythm against Barthelme’s pitching.
