NCHS JV Eagles Triumph Over Teutopolis, Struggle Against Richland County in Weekend Split

Game 1: NCHS JV Eagles 10, Teutopolis JV Wooden Shoes 1

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board in the first game, with Lexie Ghast ripping a double in the first inning to drive in the opening run. The offense exploded in the second, capitalizing on an error before Emma Brooks knocked in two with a single, followed by a run-scoring hit from Jacee Dhom.

Karly Deckard was dominant in the circle, going six innings and allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven. Ghast closed the door in the seventh with a perfect inning of relief.

Offensively, NCHS pounded out 10 hits. Kahlyn McGrath, Deckard, Ghast, and Brooks each had two hits. Brooks led the team with three RBIs in a 2-for-3 performance. On the basepaths, the Eagles swiped four bags, adding pressure all game long.

Teutopolis saw limited offense with six players collecting one hit apiece. Olivia Roley drove in their lone run.

Game 2: Richland County JV Lady Tigers 9, NCHS JV Eagles 0

The second game of the day proved tougher for Newton, as they struggled to get anything going against a red-hot Richland County squad. The Lady Tigers broke through in the second inning with a three-run burst and never looked back.

Lexie Ghast took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in just under four innings of work. Despite the scoreline, NCHS showed hustle, stealing six bases—two each from Kahlyn McGrath and Hydi Bierman.

Jorjia Reich led Newton at the plate, going 2-for-3 out of the leadoff spot, but the Eagles couldn’t find timely hits, leaving runners stranded.

Richland County’s offense was relentless, racking up 12 hits. The standout was their number nine hitter, who went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. The Lady Tigers also showed speed, stealing eight bases.
