SPRINGFIELD, IL — The Newton Community High School (NCHS) cheerleading team had a stellar showing at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association (ICCA) State Championships, bringing home a fourth-place finish in the Large Game Day Division against some of the state’s top squad competitors.
The ICCA State Championships — held January 10–11, 2026, at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield — brings together qualifying high school cheer teams from across Illinois, highlighting precision, energy, and competitive spirit in one of the largest cheer events of the season.
NCHS advanced to the state finals after delivering a strong performance at earlier qualifying competitions, earning them an invitation to compete on the state stage. Once in Springfield, the squad took to the mat with a dynamic routine that showcased teamwork, difficulty, and enthusiasm, earning high marks from the judging panel and securing fourth place overall.
The strong finish at ICCA State adds another proud chapter to NCHS cheerleading history and sets a high bar as the program looks ahead to future competitions and continued growth.
