Newton Cross Country Teams Shine at Sam Parr Meet

The Newton Cross Country teams delivered outstanding performances at the recent Sam Parr Meet, with the girls’ team claiming 1st place and the boys’ team securing a strong 2nd place finish.


Girls’ Team Dominates the Field

The Newton girls were truly dominant, securing the top five scoring positions and finishing with a near-perfect score of 15 points (1+2+3+4+5). Their depth proved to be overwhelming for the competition.

  • Layna Marshall led the way for the Eagles, taking 1st place with a time of 18:04.
  • Heather Bergbower was right behind her in 2nd place (18:41).
  • Avery Geier finished 3rd (18:58), ensuring the Eagles swept the top three spots.
  • Nora Street completed the scoring 5th (20:12),

Other notable finishes for the Eagles included Josie Vogt (6th) and Kim Bierman (7th), showcasing the team’s incredible depth. Other Newton runners include: Shay Bennett in 10th, Lily Yager in 11th, and Alivia Bierman in 15th.


Boys’ Team Finishes Strong in Second

The Newton boys’ team also had a great outing, finishing in 2nd place with an overall score of 43 points, narrowly trailing Olney who took 1st. The Eagles showed strong packing and had multiple runners near the top of the standings.

Newton’s top five scorers were:

  • Hayden Borgic led the Newton pack with 5th place and a time of 16.25.
  • Tanner Whitaker followed close behind in 6th place with a time of 16:40.
  • Johnnie Brant followed, taking 8th place (16:51).
  • Alec Bower placed 16th (18.01)
  • Kendall Probst placed 19th (18:21)

Overall, it was a successful day for both Newton teams, highlighting the hard work and competitive spirit of the Eagle cross country program.
