In a remarkable showing of athletic prowess and team depth, Newton High School surged to the top of the leaderboard with 155.5 points, claiming first place in the recent multi-school competition. Their commanding lead over Effingham (110) and Robinson (91.5) was built on consistent excellence across events—particularly from Newton’s Girls Track & Field team, who delivered standout performances in both sprints and field events.


Girls Track & Field Highlights

Sprints & Hurdles

  • Stella Schackmann (Fr.) was a breakout star, placing 1st in the 200m (27.81, +10pts) and 3rd in the 100m (13.38, +6pts), while also anchoring Newton’s 1st place 4x200m relay team.
  • Makayla McVicar (Sr.) earned 3 points in the 100m (6th place, 13.89) and contributed to all three scoring relays.
  • Karasyn Martin (Sr.) and Morgan Schafer (Jr.) combined for 11 points in the 100m hurdles, placing 3rd (18.11) and 4th (18.16), respectively.
  • In the 300m hurdles, Karasyn Martin added 5 more points with a 4th place finish (52.16).

Middle & Long Distance

  • Camryn Martin (Sr.) placed 3rd in the 400m (1:04.10, SB, +6pts) and led the 2nd place 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams.
  • Grace Schumacher (So.) delivered a personal record in the 800m (2:32.27), finishing 7th (+2pts), and ran a leg of the 4x800m relay.
  • Layna Marshall (Jr.) shone in distance events, placing 2nd in both the 1600m (5:49.27, +8pts) and 3200m (13:00.22, +8pts).

Field Events

  • Camryn Martin soared to 1st in the pole vault (11-00.00), setting a new PR and ranking #38 in Illinois, earning 10 points.
  • Karasyn Martin also vaulted to 2nd place (10-06.00, +8pts).
  • Maddie Brummer (Fr.) earned 8 points in the discus with a PR of 101-07, while Shay Bennett (Jr.) followed closely with a PR of her own (95-02, +5pts).
  • Sydney Kinder (Sr.) dominated the triple jump, winning with a leap of 35-02.50 (+10pts) and contributed across relays.
  • Audrey Beals (Fr.) placed 3rd in high jump (4-07.75, +5.5pts).
