The Newton Eagles bounced back from Tuesday’s loss in impressive fashion Wednesday, rolling past the St. Anthony Bulldogs 10-1 at home.
Newton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Evan Holder opened the scoring, heading home a ball played over the top by Holden Barthelemy.
Xavier Neal added another goal off a cross from Holder before Oliver Ochs headed a long throw-in from Henry Will down toward the far post to extend the Eagles’ advantage.
Ethan Deckard then delivered one of the highlights of the match, scoring from approximately 25 yards out with the outside of his foot.
Holder continued to make his presence felt, scoring again with an assist from Lena Fehrenbacher. Before the opening half came to a close, Holder completed his hat trick and added another assist to Fehrenbacher.
Newton’s sixth goal came from Diego Gonzalez, who curled a shot into the top corner from outside the 18-yard box. Gonzalez began playing soccer just two seasons ago and capped the first-half scoring with the impressive strike, giving Newton a 6-1 lead at halftime.
The Eagles continued their offensive attack after the break.
Daniel Falcioni tapped in a headed ball from Neal at the near post to make it 7-1.
Will then scored directly off his own corner kick before adding his second goal of the match off a long ball from Cylas Dickerson.
The Eagles’ 10th goal closed out the scoring as Newton completed the 10-1 victory over St. Anthony.
