The Newton Rotary Club was visited by Sarah Diel Kinkade (pictured) to talk about the Queen of Hearts drawing on behalf of the Newton Athletic Club, a 501c3 not-for-profit that helps support projects in Jasper County schools. Although the Queen of Hearts drawing is in its fourth year, this year it has grown substantially larger than in the past, and has brought a lot of attention and participation. The “big” pot currently stands at over $200,000, but any ticket drawn is an automatic $1,000 win (plus and additional $1,000 if present for the drawing). Even though you don’t have to be present to win if your number uncovers the Queen, it was estimated that over 1,000 people attended last Saturday’s weekly drawing. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at MVP, Marathon, The Gas Station in Ste. Marie or a fourth location which changes from week to week. So much good has already been done with this fund, and everyone’s enthusiasm for it has made it go big.
The next drawing will be Saturday evening at the Newton American Legion.
