Newton Tennis Opens Season 1-2

The Newton Eagles opened the 2026 varsity tennis season with three matches, earning a 6-3 victory over Fairfield before dropping close contests to Salem and Effingham St. Anthony. Newton finished the opening stretch with a 1-2 record.

Newton opened the season on the road at Fairfield, where the Eagles came away with a solid 6-3 team victory. Newton’s singles players picked up several wins, while the Eagles also found success in doubles to secure the opening-season win.

The Eagles then traveled to Salem, where they battled the host team before falling 6-3. Newton continued to show strength in singles, but Salem was able to gain the advantage in doubles to take the team match.

Newton returned home for its matchup with Effingham St. Anthony. The Eagles fought hard throughout the home opener but ultimately fell 6-3.

The Eagles again collected multiple singles victories against St. Anthony, but the Bulldogs’ doubles performance proved to be the difference in the final team score.

Newton now sits at 1-2 on the season after three competitive matches. The early-season competition has given the Eagles an opportunity to test themselves against strong opponents as they continue to develop chemistry and consistency across both singles and doubles play.

With the home portion of the schedule now underway, Newton will look to build on its opening-season victory and continue improving as the 2026 season progresses.
