The Newton Lady Eagles tennis team faced a packed slate this week, collecting key victories over Casey-Westfield and Fairfield before falling to a strong Effingham squad.
Newton 5, Casey-Westfield 4
Newton edged Casey-Westfield in a tight matchup, with singles wins from Olivia Sornberger (6-0, 6-0), Scarlett Collins (6-1, 6-0), and Jenna Hall (6-2, 7-5) helping set the tone. In doubles play, Sornberger paired with Jailyn Hall for a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1, while Emma Walker and Izzy Probst dominated at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Those points sealed the 5-4 team win.
Newton 7, Fairfield 2
The Lady Eagles followed up with a strong road performance at Fairfield. Jailyn Hall and Sornberger each cruised in singles play, winning by identical 10-1 margins. Collins (10-1) and Jenna Hall (10-6) also earned victories. Newton swept the doubles courts, highlighted by a gritty 11-10 (7-2) tiebreak win from Hall and Sornberger at the top spot. Beth Brocious with Jenna Hall and the duo of Audrey Beals and Brenley Francis also secured doubles victories to lock in a 7-2 team triumph.

Newton closed the week against a tough Effingham lineup, coming up short despite strong performances. Hall picked up a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), while Sornberger added another win at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1). The duo teamed up for a hard-fought doubles battle, but ultimately dropped a close 10-8 tiebreak. The Lady Eagles finished with three total wins on the night as Effingham pulled away, 6-3.
