Newton Volleyball Splits with Teutopolis; Freshmen and JV Earn Wins
The Newton Eagles volleyball program hit the court Monday night against Teutopolis, earning wins at the freshman and junior varsity levels before the varsity team fell in a tight three-set battle.
The freshman team opened the evening strong, defeating T-Town in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22. The JV followed with another solid performance, pulling off a 25-23, 25-21 victory.
In varsity action, Newton came out sharp in the first set, taking it 25-19, but the Wooden Shoes rallied back to win the next two, 25-20, 25-21, handing the Eagles their 12th loss of the season. Newton’s record now stands at 15–12.
Leading the offense was Hydi Bierman, who notched 8 kills and 4 aces while adding 11 digs on the defensive side. Emma Brooks tallied 5 kills, 8 digs, and an ace, while Stella Schackmann and Joslynn Pitcher each contributed 4 kills. Isabel Meinhart added 3 kills, 2 aces, and 4 digs, while Claire Probst recorded 3 kills and a block.
Setting duties were shared among Amy Shull (10 assists), Paige Wagner (8 assists), and Bierman, Schackmann, and Meinhart, who each added an assist apiece.
Defensively, the back row held strong, with Morgan Schafer collecting 6 digs, Grace Schumacher adding 5, and several others contributing key plays to keep the Eagles in contention. At the net, Pitcher led with 3 blocks, while Bierman and Probst each added one.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, October 16, when they host Olney for their annual Pink Out Game. The freshman match begins at 5 p.m., followed by JV at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
