Newton Volleyball Sweeps Opponents, Improves to 3-3

The Newton Eagles volleyball program put together a strong showing on Tuesday, September 2, with all three levels—freshman, junior varsity, and varsity—picking up wins at home.
The varsity squad controlled the match from the opening serve, rolling to a 25-9, 25-16 victory. The win evens Newton’s record at 3-3 on the season.
Senior Isabel Meinhart sparked the Eagles at the service line with four aces while also contributing a block, four digs, and an assist. Fellow senior Hydi Bierman filled the stat sheet with three aces, eight kills, three digs, and two assists, while junior Claire Probst matched Bierman with eight kills of her own and added three digs and a block.
Junior setter Amy Shull led the team with 11 assists, while Meinhart chipped in eight. On the defensive side, senior libero Morgan Schafer collected five digs, with junior Allie Hermann adding six digs and three kills. Seniors Joslynn Pitcher and Meinhart each tallied a block at the net.
The Eagles also got valuable contributions from sophomore Stella Schackmann (four kills, three digs, one ace) and Hermann, who combined steady defense with timely offense.
Earlier in the evening, the JV squad held off a determined opponent for a 25-20, 25-21 win. The freshman team set the tone with a straight-set victory of their own, taking down their opponent 25-15, 25-17.
With a balanced mix of upperclassmen leadership and younger players stepping into key roles, the Eagles look poised to keep building on their early-season success.
