In light of the new executive order issued by the governor beginning today, we wanted to make clear some of the changes that will be taking effect in Jasper County.
Certain retail businesses that had been previously closed are now able to be open in a limited capacity, in order to fulfill online orders or curbside pickups. If you have any questions or concerns about your business or other businesses in town, please call the Jasper County Health Department at 618-783-4436.
Some state parks, including Sam Parr, as well as city parks can now be reopened, also in limited capacity. Campgrounds as well as playground equipment will still be closed as of now.
We are encouraging our residents to wear a face covering any time they enter a business of any kind or are unable to maintain social distancing of at least six feet, although we have no plans to make this strictly enforced. Most importantly, we expect everyone to respect the wishes of each business owner if you are asked to wear a face covering in their establishment.
Since we are trying to encourage everyone to wear a face covering, we are no longer restricting the use of a face covering if you are carrying a concealed weapon with a valid concealed carry license.
Our number one priority is always the safety of our citizens, including our most vulnerable, so please do your best to stay healthy, stay safe, and stay six feet away.
