There will be a PARK day to fundraise for the Riverwalk on June 29th at Peterson Park with the proceeds from the mini-golf, batting cages, and Newton Aquatic Center going to the Riverwalk Trail from 1pm to 8pm.
The Newton Eagle Trail System is more than just one park of trail down past the Old River Bridge, it’s a larger scale project with six phases in which three have been completed.
The first phase of Eagle Trail included the Newton Aquatic Center. The second phase included the rehabilitation of the Embarras River Bridge and the first leg of the Eagle Trails which extends from the bridge to the highway along the river bottoms. The third phase included the downtown sidewalk beautification which included making sidewalks handicap accessible and
The fourth phase of the Eagle Trail System includes an ADA compliant route for non-motorized travel (pedestrian, bicycle, wheelchair, in-line skating etc between the Embarras River Bridge and Peterson Park including scenic views of the river and wildlife with construction beginning in 2020.
