Ruth Emma Groth, age 89, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 4:48 PM – Sunday, September 26, 2021, at HSHS St.
Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Private services will be held, with burial in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois. Arrangements are under
the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. In loving memory of Ruth, memorials may be made to the Grace

Ruth was born on April 30, 1932, in Lucas Township, Effingham County, Illinois, the daughter of William and Mary
(Bergmann) Mellendorf. She married Edward Charles Groth on December 19, 1968, and he preceded her in death on
September 20, 2012.
Ruth graduated from Effingham High School in 1951. She worked as seamstress at Snowers Garment Factory in
Teutopolis and the glove factory in Effingham. She also helped her husband on farm.
Ruth was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dieterich, Illinois. She enjoyed watching sports and was an avid
Chicago Cubs.

Siblings – Logan (Vera) Mellendorf of Louisville, Illinois
Marlene (Gerald) Stuckemeyer of Altamont, Illinois
Karen (Dale) Kearney of Mattoon, Illinois
Several nieces and nephews also survive
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a nephew Fred Groth.
