Senior Night Win and Camryn Martin Breaks Scoring Record

The 2025 Newton Lady Eagles basketball senior night was one for the books! In addition to celebrating three amazing seniors, one of the these young ladies broke the career scoring record previously held by Katie Lurkins at 1,365. Camryn Martin broke the record for career points with 1,376 career points and counting.

Newton set the tone early, outscoring Pana 23-2 in the first quarter and never looking back. With the win, Newton improves to 18-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

Newton’s offense was led by C. Martin, who put up an impressive 18 points, while Probst added 12. K. Martin also contributed 10 points, helping Newton maintain a steady offensive presence. Schumacher (8 points), O’Dell (6 points), Meinhart (2 points), Hermann (2 points), Earnest (2 points), and Brummer (2 points) rounded out the scoring effort.

Pana struggled offensively, with Frailen-Dressa and Blackwell leading the team with 5 points each. Handy added 3 points, while Laker, Henschen, and Cox each scored 2 points. Rochkes contributed 1 point to Pana’s total.

On the defensive end, C. Martin was a standout with 6 steals, while K. Martin added 4. Schumacher (3) and Hermann (2) also contributed to Newton’s strong defensive showing.

In the playmaking department, C. Martin and Schumacher each recorded 3 assists, while Probst, O’Dell, and Meinhart each had 2.

JV Action

In the JV matchup, Newton also came out victorious, defeating Pana 37-29. Bergbower led the way with 17 points, while Schumacher added 9. Brummer (4), Earnest (3), Kistner (2), and Duncan (2) contributed to the team’s scoring.
