Safe travels and good luck to the Jasper County Lady Eagles as they head to state!
The Lady Eagles began their road to state with a win over Vandalia on September 11. The final score was 12-2 with Vandalia scoring one run in the second and sixth innings. The Lady Eagles scored one in the first, two in the second, third, fourth, and fifth and three in the sixth.
Scoring for the Eagles includes: Camryn Martin, Bailee Frichtl, Sydney Kinder, and Karasyn Martin with one run, Elley Bennett with two, and Macy Barthelemy and Addy O’Dell with three runs.
Then the Lady Eagles played Effingham Jr. High where they won with a final score of 6-4. Effingham scored three in the first and one in the fifth. JCJH scored five in the third and one in the fourth.
Scoring for the Eagles includes: two runs for Addy O’Dell and one for each Bailey Frichtl, Lexie Grove, Sally Mahaffey, and Sydney Kinder.
The Lady Eagles played in the Regional Championship against Mattoon Middle School Wildcats with a final score of 5-4. Mattoon scored one in the second and fourth and two in the fifth. The Eagles scored two in the third and three in the sixth.
The Lady Eagles advanced to Sectionals where they faced the Meridian Hawks. Meridian took the lead in the first inning with one run, however, the Eagles tied it up in the fourth with one inning. The Eagles claimed the lead in the fifth with eight runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. Meridian scored one final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Scoring for the Eagles included four runs for each Addy O’Dell, Camryn Martin, Lexie Grove, and Mackenzie Miller. Avery Mulvey, Bailee Frichtl, Allie Stanley, and Karasyn Martin each scored two.
The Lady Eagles (25-1) will begin their state play on Friday, September 27 at 10:30 am where they will face Tremont (21-2).
If they win they will play again at 10:30 am on September 28. If they win the semifinals, they will advance to the State Championship on September 28 at 4:30 pm. If they lose the semifinals, they will play in the third place game at 2:30 pm on September 28.
