St. Thomas Prays Around Flag Pole for Patriot Day

From St. Thomas Facebook page:
Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Many Americans refer to Patriot Day as 9/11 or September 11.

On September 11, 2001, 19 men hijacked four fuel-loaded commercial airlines bound for west coast destinations. This terrorist attack on the United States is orchestrated by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. A total of 2,977 people are killed in New York City, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. ~ CNN

Heavenly Father,
As we gather as a school family around the flag of our country this morning, we remember those who died or were in any way affected by the 9/11 attacks with a moment of silence…

Eighteen years later, we continue to keep all first responders, firemen, police officers, EMTs in our prayers and give thanks that they are willing to risk their lives to help others.

We are also thankful for those serving in our military – who fight around the world to ensure that our freedoms, especially the one to worship You, Lord, is protected.

We pray for anyone who has or is facing a great loss in their life, like the families of those who died on 9/11. May their faith in You guide them through and give them strength.

May your guiding light be in the hearts of all leaders around the world, helping them to work together to eliminate the evil that caused 9/11. We pray that they understand the vastness of their responsibility.

Bless these students – may they never face another terrorist take in their lifetime – in their future, may they work to keep America the greatest nation in the world.

Amen
