This is the short summary of the September School Board meeting. More detail will be included in a later article, however, we wanted to get the basics out tonight.
Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the Board of Education offices, Monday, September 23,
2019. Board members present were Mr. Gordon Millsap, Mr. Jon Fulton, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Bill
Meinhart, Mr. Jason Kuhl and Mrs. Holly Farley. Members absent: None.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Jon Fulton asked for a moment of silence and a prayer for the passing of board member Rob Street on September 16, many thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Budget hearing was held from 7:16pm to 7:32pm.

Volunteers – Wendy Dobbins, Sandra Michels, Kelly Ross, Sarah Lingafelter, Becki White, Keri Ulm and Tamara Wilson all for Newton Elementary also Newton CEO for Tamara Wilson
Donations: $1,000 from the Orell Farley Foundation for t-shirts for the Strong Girls and B.O.Y.S. programs at Newton Elementary, $187 from First National Bank, $2,000 from an anonymous donor for the Shoe Box Gift Drive, $2,000 from an anonymous donor for the football team, $1,000 from Athletic Boosters to each sport/activity for deposit into their activity accounts for coaches to use at their discretion, in total this year, the booster club will make those $1,000 donations to 17 different programs, $381.50 from Athletic Boosters for a portable photo backdrop with our logo on it, $281 from Athletics Boosters for the replacement of tennis uniforms and $13,000 from Athletic Boosters for the purchase of a new John Deere Gator with medical cart capabilities.
Declare textbooks as surplus
Presentation of the Administrator and Teacher Salary Compensation Report which is a legal requirement for all Illinois school districts. This will be posted on our website by October 1.
Hired Becky Johnson as a special education bus aide,
David Lee as a special education bus driver,
Jennifer Utley as the secretary for transportation,
Jaime Newkirk as a PASS Classroom Aide at Newton Elementary
Melissa Stanley as the JCJH Cheer Sponsor, all to begin immediately.
The board went into executive session at 7:44pm for 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c) (1) – To consider information regarding appointment, employment or dismissal of individual employees and 5 ILCS 120 /2 ( c ) ( 9) To Discuss Matter of Student Discipline.
Approval to return to open session at 9:15pm.
Approval to advertise for an office assistant to the district secretary and the district bookkeeper and to advertise for a technology assistant.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15pm.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2019 at 6:30 pm at the Board Office.
