Children do not have to participate in the Reading Program to attend the free shows. There will be six weekly shows this year. Please call or email the library if you have any questions.
Reading Programs:
Registration for the Library Reading Program will start on May 22nd and go through June 6th at the library. You may call the library to sign up for the Reading Program. Children 0 to 16 years old, will receive a book log to keep track of their reading.
Goals: (For the six week duration of the program)
Pre-K – 5 years old – 10 minutes per day
6 to 11 years old – 15 minutes per day
12 to 16 years old – 30 minutes per day.
The children who meet their reading goal will earn a pizza coupon for their personal pan size pizza provided by Joe’s Pizza.
Children who do not have a library card are still encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Any books from home are good for achieving their goals as well as reading in the library. There will also be goals and prizes for the kids at heart, as well.
Other Happenings:
Story Time
During the summer, the library will be having a “Story Time” for the little ones. Children ages preschool through 2nd grade can visit the library for a story read by one of the volunteers with a craft afterwards. This is a great way to introduce the love of reading. It will be on Thursdays at 10:30 am at the library.
Make & Take Crafts:
The library will be having crafts again this year, as well as “to go” bags of ready to make crafts for your little crafters.
All you will need at home is some glue, crayons, and your imagination.
We know that older siblings are often looking for things to
do in the summer; see us for ways to motivate and challenge them to read. We haven’t forgotten about our “older” readers. We will be offering prizes during the program for them, too.
Painting with Tia:
The library will be offering Painting with Tia on Wednesday, June 14th and 21st. June 14th will be open to students that are 12-16 year olds and June 21st is open to students from 7 to 11 year olds. Students will sign up to paint an 11×14 canvas. When the student signs up they will choose from 2 options. Sign up will begin May 23rd; space is limited.
Summer Pool Party:
A Summer Pool Party at the Newton Aquatic Center will be planned in July. We invite the community to join us for fun under the stars!
