Superintendent’s Report:
Community Partnership Grant Update
- This is the second and last year of the Community Partnership Grant.
- The grant ends on June 30, 2024.
- The grant is paying for the following:
- Field trip fees to assist in learning, emotional/social skills learning for special education students.
- Fees for contracted services for mental health services for students.
- Journey 12 for continuation of Community/School magazine and videos for community engagement and information sharing to increase cooperation and relationships between school and community.
- Portable restrooms for the Jasper County Fairgrounds that supports the community and students who use the fairgrounds for all community events.
- School Ball fields upgrades for safer places for school/families/community to gather and participate in enrichment activities for social/mental/physical activities for community engagement activities.
- Out of District Grant Writer fees to maintain the grants, state reports, disseminate data to the State of Illinois.
- The only projects that are still not completed are the ballfields and the greenhouse.
- The ballfields should be completed this month and the greenhouse in May and June.
Calendar 2024-2025:
- The time to look forward to the 2024-2025 school year is here.
- As a superintendent, I go through the process of preparing the calendar:
- Created in January.
- Share with the Board in February
- Vote on the calendar in March.
Building and Grounds:
- Building and Grounds Committee Meeting on March 1, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. at 1401 Clayton Avenue.
New Business
- Approved a Contract for the Jasper County School District with Pepsi MidAmerica
- Approval to Amend FY 24 Calendar
- The Board discussed the upcoming eclipse and the potential for significant traffic disruptions at the time students are released from school.
- The District continues to work with state and local government entities to receive more information on what may transpire that day in Jasper County.
Action out of Executive Session
- Approved to keep closed session minutes closed from January 1, 2021 – June 30, 2021
- Approved a contract extension for Jasper County Superintendent Joe Sornberger through the 2027-2028 School Year. With a base salary of $146,000 for 2024-2025 School Year and a 4% increase annually over the life of the contract.

- Approved the Retirement of Norman Short as District maintenance as of March 31, 2024
- Approved the Resignation of Jordan Baker as a District Paraprofessional as of February 6, 2024

- Approval to hire Abby Frohning as the Newton Elementary Guidance
Counselor for the 2024-2025 School Year
- Approval to hire Josey Hyatt as the Jasper County Junior High Guidance
Counselor for the 2024-2025 School Year
- Approval to hire Madison Healy as a Newton Elementary School Teacher for
the 2024-2025 School Year
- Approve to hire Sidney Mayberry as a Newton Elementary School Teacher
for the 2024-2025 School Year
- Approval to hire members for the Strong Girls Program at NES
