Three NCHS students competed at the Future Business Leaders of America Nationals competition in San Antonio, Texas. Arianna Goss competed in Impromptu Speaking, Destin Wilson competed in Insurance and Risk Management, and Eli Weber competed in Into to FBLA where he placed second. Eli was recognized on stage, given a trophy and received $200.
While in San Antonio, the students were able to learn about the history of the area with visits to the Alamo, Riverwalk, and a Japanese Tea Garden. They also took a night cruise on the Riverwalk.
The event consists of between 13 and 14 thousand students attending and competing in the various categories from all over the world including, China, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic to name a few. In each category there were roughly 100 to 150 other students which makes a second place finish all the more impressive.
Ms. Gail Turner judged one section of Business Presentations while attending the event. This area had 8 sections and 16 competitors.
The students fundraised to pay for as much of the trip as they could, however, they still had to pay $800 out of pocket as well as their food costs. Next year, the National Conference will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
