Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County
Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the office of the Board of Education by virtual zoom/or in
person due to COVID 19, on Monday, August 17, 2020. Board members present were Mr. Gordon
Millsap, Mr. Jon Fulton, Mrs. Holly Farley, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Mindy Street, Mr. Bill Meinhart and
Mr. Jason Kuhl. Members absent: None.
All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.
Gordon Millsap called the meeting to order.
Gordon provided instructions on how to comment or provide questions for the upcoming Item IV
Recognition of Guests and Public Comments, guests may submit questions or statements to be read
aloud during this time by utilizing the chat button on the zoom meeting.
Agenda was adopted.
Under Superintendent’s report, Mr. Johnson introduced Stephanie Klingler, JCEA President, Stephanie
thanked Mr. Johnson and the board for all their support during this time. Stephanie showed the board a
google classroom that the teachers built for remote learning students. Attitudes of staff and students
have been great.
Mr. Johnson informed the board the district has 137 remote learners, a total of 1238 students enrolled
as of the beginning of the school year, 63 students have left the district and 34 new students have
enrolled.
Mrs. Probst shared the many emails from JCJH parents praising how well the remote learning has went
due to JCJH needing to go all remote August 17 through August 25, JCJH students and staff will return
August 26 th .
Gordon asked for guests and public comments. There were none.

Regular and closed session minutes from July 20, 2020 and regular session minutes from July 27, 2020
special meeting,
Bills and Payroll,
Presentment of monthly financial reports,
Destruction of closed session recording for June 19, 2018
Contract renewal for Jasper County Health Department, Behavioral Health and JCCU#1 counseling
services for July 1, 2020 through June 30, 202,
Surplus Old Math in Focus Series, library books, Old Scott Foresman Reading Series (6 th grade only) and
technology equipment.
Approval of Tentative FY 21’ Budget.
Approval to allow Mt. Carmel to join the high school conference.
Approval of the resignation of Kim Zumbahlen as a part time transportation secretary and the
retirement of David Lee as a special education bus driver both effective immediately.
Approval to hire Darlene Walker as a part time Title I teacher to start immediately at Newton
Elementary.
Approval to hire Sean Martin as full time JCJH/NCHS Day Custodian, Taylor Schmidt as full time Newton
Elementary Day Custodian, Jeremy French as JCJH Cross Country Coach, Jackie Menke as part time
paraprofessional to help supervise lunch at Newton Elementary, Libby Collins as part time
paraprofessional to help with breakfast, etc. and supervise lunch at Newton Elementary and Lori TeVault
as part time transportation secretary all to start immediately.
The board went into executive session at 7:35pm for 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) ( 1 ) – To consider information
Regarding Appointment, Employment or Dismissal of Individual Employees, 5 ILCS 120/2 ( C ) ( 5 )
Purchase or lease of real property and 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c ) (9) – To Discuss Matter of Student Discipline.
Approval to return to open session at 9:05pm.
Meeting adjourned at 9:05pm.
