Whitney Zumbahlen Signs with EIU Track

Whitney Zumbahlen, daughter of Stan and Kim Zumbahlen, will be attending Eastern Illinois University as a member of the track team. A 2021 graduate of NCHS, Whitney participated in Basketball, Track, Softball, FFA, CEO, Beta Club, Captains Club, Spanish Club, 4-H during her years at NCHS.

What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?

EIU is the best fit for me because while having the chance to run track, Eastern offers a great business program and is close to home.

How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?

NCHS has prepared me for this step both academically and athletically. At NCHS I was able to obtain many dual credits that transfer to my college studies. I also was able to gain a true work ethic and determination through the NCHS sports program that will benefit me at the collegiate level.

What are at least two life lessons you have learned from sports?

A few of the numerous life lessons I’ve learned from sports are…

  1. Show up early, not on time
  2. Always give 110%
  3. Never be afraid to try something new

How have your coaches (and assistant coaches) helped prepare you to play at a collegiate level?

My coaches have helped prepare me for the collegiate level by pushing me out of my comfort zone and teaching me to believe in myself.

What will you miss the most next year about not being a Newton Eagle?

What I will miss most about being a Newton Eagle is the hometown/family atmosphere at my sporting events.
I would like to give a special shout-out to the best running partner, Laney Hemerich, for always pushing me to do better and run faster.
