Yvonne E. Cohoon age 82, of Mattoon formerly of Jasper County, Illinois passed away on
Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center.
Private family graveside services will be held. The family will receive friends and family from
1:00 p.m. until 2 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois.
Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.
Yvonne was born on July 6, 1941 in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of George Harlen and
Lola Howe (Jenner) Birk. Following her high school graduation, Yvonne began working as a
secretary at Hulman & Company in Mattoon, Illinois. She married Fred Cohoon and to this
union was born a son, Chadley Cohoon. She later worked as a housekeeper until her retirement.
Yvonne was a member of the Blair Church. She enjoyed listening to the radio, especially the
country stations. She was a loving, devoted mother and wonderful person.
She was be loved and remembered by her son, Chadley Cohoon, wife Crystal of Mattoon, IL;
two granddaughters Morgan Leigh Sandhu, husband Harmic of Washington State and Sydnie
Rae Drummond, husband Evan of Gays; two step granddaughters Kinsey Stapleton of Florida
and Marissa Stapleton of Mattoon; great-granddaughters Addira Sandhu, Ari Sandhu, Reise
Drummond and Rae Drummond; brother Melvin Birk, wife JoAnn of Newton and sister Wilma
Jean Birk of Mt. Carmel.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents.
