
The Newton Eagles traveled to Casey-Westfield on Tuesday night but came up short in a 45-32 loss to the Warriors.
Newton opened the contest strong, holding the hosts to just two points in the first quarter and taking a 10-2 lead after one. However, Casey-Westfield responded in the second quarter with an 18-point surge to take control heading into halftime. The Warriors continued to build their advantage in the second half, outscoring Newton 25-14 over the final two quarters.
Kody Bergbower led the Eagles offensively with 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double performance. Drake Wolf added 9 points, while Hayden Mulvey and Lance Volk each contributed 5 points. Jacob Oldham chipped in 4 points to round out the scoring for Newton.
As a team, Newton connected on eight two-point field goals and four three-pointers, finishing 4-of-7 from the free throw line. The Eagles grabbed 27 rebounds in the contest.
Casey-Westfield was led by High with 14 points and Julius with 13, helping the Warriors secure the home victory.
With the loss, Newton’s record moves to 14-13 on the season. The Eagles will look to bounce back Friday when they host Flora.
