Lady Eagles Celebrate Senior Night with 6-2 Victory Over Lawrenceville

The Newton Lady Eagles celebrated Senior Night in winning fashion Monday evening, defeating Lawrenceville 6-2 at home while honoring seniors Izzy Meinhart, Karly Deckard, Audrie Reich, and Hydi Bierman before the game.

Newton wasted little time getting on the board, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Lexie Ghast delivered an RBI single to help the Lady Eagles jump in front early. Lawrenceville answered with two runs in the top of the second to briefly tie the game, but Newton responded immediately.

Hydi Bierman came through with a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second that brought home a run and gave Newton the lead for good at 3-2. The Lady Eagles added another run in the third before scoring twice more in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Senior Karly Deckard earned the win in the circle for Newton. Deckard allowed just three hits and two unearned runs over five innings while striking out two and walking three. Emma Inyart was solid in relief, tossing two shutout innings and allowing only one hit while striking out two.

Newton finished with eight hits in the game. Claire Probst and senior Audrie Reich each collected two hits, while Jacee Dhom delivered a key two-run double. Lexie Ghast also added an RBI hit for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles were aggressive on the basepaths throughout the night. Senior Jorjia Reich and Claire Probst each stole multiple bases as Newton totaled five stolen bases in the victory.

Lawrenceville managed four hits in the contest, led by Elaina Hoke with two hits.

The evening was also a special one for Newton softball as the program recognized seniors Izzy Meinhart, Karly Deckard, Audrie Reich, and Hydi Bierman for their dedication and contributions to the Lady Eagles program.
