Jason Warfel has been selected as a member of the 2026 class of Edgar Fellows, a prestigious statewide leadership initiative that brings together emerging leaders from across Illinois.
Warfel was one of only 40 individuals selected from approximately 140 nominees statewide for the highly competitive program. According to the official selection letter, candidates were chosen by a committee representing the public, private, and academic sectors after an extensive evaluation process.
The Edgar Fellows Program was founded to help prepare Illinois’ next generation of leaders through bipartisan collaboration, executive leadership training, and networking opportunities. The intensive five-day program will be held August 2–6 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign I-Hotel and Conference Center in Urbana-Champaign.
Participants will engage with experienced public officials, scholars, researchers, and leaders from across the state to discuss leadership strategies and the future of Illinois. The fellowship covers hotel accommodations, meals, speakers’ fees, and related educational expenses.
The selection letter noted that the honor reflects not only Warfel’s accomplishments, but also his “potential to take a greater leadership role” in Illinois in the years ahead.
In addition to the August program, fellows are invited to remain involved through ongoing networking, mentoring, and educational opportunities with both current and past Edgar Fellows classes.
The names of the 2026 Edgar Fellows will be officially released to the media in July.
