During the halftime of the game not only did the Newton Marching Eagles perform but Layna Marshall and Drake Wolf were also recognized at Hall of Fame Inductees
NEWTON — The Newton Eagles put together a dominant performance Friday night, rolling past Trenton-Wesclin 55-7 on August 28.
Newton scored in every quarter, building a 7-0 lead after the opening period before exploding for 19 points in the second quarter. The Eagles added 15 in the third and 14 more in the fourth to complete the convincing victory.
The Eagles finished with 419 yards of total offense, including 252 yards rushing and 167 through the air. Newton recorded 15 first downs while limiting Trenton-Wesclin to just 131 total yards and six first downs.
Fulton Finds the End Zone Four Times
Quincy Fulton was one of the biggest offensive weapons for the Eagles, hauling in seven passes for 102 yards and four touchdowns. His touchdowns came on receptions of 12, 7, 32 and 46 yards.
Fulton also contributed on special teams with a 16-yard punt return and added six rushing yards.
Maddox Horner was equally impressive on the ground, rushing 11 times for 151 yards, including a spectacular 76-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Horner also caught two passes for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Horner’s 76-yard scoring run came on Newton’s first offensive possession of the fourth quarter and pushed the Eagles’ advantage to 40-7.
Wolf Leads Balanced Attack
Quarterback Eli Wolf completed 8 of 12 passes for 138 yards and five touchdowns while adding 78 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Wolf connected with Fulton for three of the Eagles’ scoring passes and found Horner for another. The Eagles also got a touchdown pass from Chase Kistner to William Michl in the fourth quarter.
Michl had an eventful night, scoring twice. In addition to his fourth-quarter touchdown reception, he returned a Trenton-Wesclin interception 51 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Henry Will handled the majority of the Eagles’ kicking duties, going 5-for-6 on extra points while also contributing eight kickoffs.
Defense Controls the Game
Newton’s defense kept Trenton-Wesclin’s offense in check throughout the night. The visitors managed only 22 rushing yards and 109 passing yards. Newton also recorded eight sacks for 30 yards in losses.
The Eagles’ defense forced two Trenton-Wesclin turnovers, including the interception returned for a touchdown by Michl. Trenton-Wesclin finished with two fumbles, both lost, while Newton lost one fumble.
Newton’s 55 points came on eight touchdowns, with Fulton accounting for four, Horner two and Michl two. The Eagles converted six extra-point attempts and added a successful two-point conversion.
