Musical Monday: Cora Buerster

Each Monday between now and the opening of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on March 26th we will be featuring Musical Monday. This week we will continue highlighting our NCHS Seniors who are casted in the 2020 NCHS Musical with Senior Cora Buerster.

In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cora will portray a member of the chorus. Cora is the daughter of Jason and Angie Buerster.

The following are Cora’s answers to the questionnaire we provided.

What musicals have you been in at NCHS and what characters/roles did you play?

I was a jellyfish and dragonfly in The Little Mermaid in my freshman year. I was the New Modern in Thoroughly Modern Millie in my sophomore year. I was one of the girls that tried on the shoe in Cinderella in my junior year.

What was your favorite musical and why?

My favorite musical would have to be Thoroughly Modern Millie. I picked that musical as my favorite, because when I came out from behind the curtain as the New Modern, I stole Millie’s spotlight.

What scene in Joseph is your favorite and why? (This does not have to be a scene you are in)

My favorite scene in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat would have to be Potiphar, because when Mrs. Potiphar started flirting with Joseph, it seems quite amusing.

What are three things being in the musical have taught you? and how have you learned these?

Being in the musicals have taught me to smile with my eyes when I’m singing, never go out of character while performing on stage, and always be ready to go on stage whether it’s at practice, rehearsals, or performances.

What are two pieces of advice you would give young people who want to start performing in musicals at NCHS?

I would tell young people who want to start performing in musicals to know your lines and songs that you are going to do for auditions, and if you are sick on any day that the cast is learning a new dance, make sure to ask a cast member to teach you the dance.

What qualities do you see exemplified in the adults who help put on this show that you will take with you as you leave NCHS and how do they demonstrate these qualities?

The adults who help out with the musicals always made sure the costumes look nice, the sets were well constructed, and the dances were performed the right way.

What will you miss the most once the final curtain closes on your NCHS musical career?

What I will miss the most performing for four years in the musicals is the costumes that I wore for every performance. I will also miss performing with my sister, since this year is the only year that me and my sister get to perform in the musical.

Cora also later added to her answers stating, “I forgot to mention also as one of my favorite parts for my favorite musical is when LaRae Bigard accidentally broke the glass. It was hilarious” and “I also forgot to mention as one of my favorite scenes for this year’s musical is when RJ sings like Elvis in the song, Poor Poor Pharaoh/Song of the King.”
Opening Night for the NCHS musical will be March 26th at 7pm. Performances will also be held on March 27th at 7pm, March 28th at 7pm and March 29th at 2 pm.
