Corvette Funfest 2019
4:30 p.m. – Red, White & Blue Corvette Display
The Homecoming Birthday Celebration begins to take shape as Mike Yager leads red, white and blue Corvettes onto the courthouse lawn. The final formation will be a patriotic display that greets locals and Corvette enthusiasts alike as they reach downtown Newton.
5:00 p.m. – The Do-Overs
Enjoy the musical stylings and quick-witted banter of the Do-Overs. Jasper County natives, Paige Layman and Mike Clark play story-songs relating to women, relationships and second chances.
5:45 p.m. – Corvette Parade
The first Corvettes begin to arrive in downtown Newton. Locals are invited to line the parade route along Washington Street to welcome Corvettes to Mike Yager’s hometown. Once parked, Corvette owners and other guests can visit businesses, food vendors and various activities.
6:15 p.m. – Welcome to Newton
City of Newton Mayor, Mark Bolander, welcomes the Yagers and guests to the community.
6:30 p.m. – Newton Marching Eagles Perform
Following up on their undefeated 2018 marching season, the Newton Marching Eagles will perform the Star Spangled Banner and give a sneak peak of their 2019 show.
6:45 p.m. – The Do-Overs Return to the Stage
7:30 p.m. – Birthday Cake Cutting
What’s a birthday celebration without cake? Help us wish Mike Yager a happy 70th birthday with locally made cake and cupcakes. There may even be a song and a few candles.
Approx. 7:45 p.m. – Guest Speaker Blake Schroedter
Clinical psychologist and Army Captain Blake Schroedter talks about his roots in Jasper County, his efforts to establish the Road Home Program: Effingham Clinic for veterans and their families, as well as his endeavor to open Newton Elite Fitness.
Approx. 8:00 p.m. – Downtown Awards
Learn which Corvettes stood out to earn the titles of Chief’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice, Queen’s Choice, People’s Choice, Banker’s Choice and Farthest Distance.
8:15 p.m – The Do-Overs Return to the Stage
Finish out the evening with the Do-Overs and don’t forget to grab souvenirs for your friends back home!
