Board of Education Full Unofficial Minutes for August

Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County Community Unit School District No. 1 held in the office of the Board of Education on Monday, August 15, 2022.  Board members present were Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mr. Bill Meinhart, Mr. Jason Kuhl, Mr. Brady Shull, Mr. Jerry L. Jed Earnest attended by Zoom and Mrs. Holly Farley.  Members absent:  Mrs. Mandi Utley.

All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.

Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.

Agenda was approved as presented. 

Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments. There were none.

There were 2 FOIA requests. One from Construct Connect requesting the bid tabulation from Farnsworth Group on the NCHS/JCJH Roof Upgrades 2022 and one from Public Access Bureau reviewing Board Member Earnest request of All “ANONYMOUS DONATIONS” made to [the District] between the dates of July 1, 2017, to the present date (believed to be at least a total of $46,485 from Sept, 2020, to Dec 31, 2021). Please include (but not limited to) date of donation, name of donor, what program requested to, and name and address receipt sent to.

Board member Jerry L. Jed Earnest asked to pull item F-Donations to vote on separately. Approval of the consent agenda.

Approval of Disposition of Technology Surplus and Classroom Dictionaries and Library Books Surplus.

Under the superintendent’s report, Mr. Sornberger gave an informative report on district grants. Our district has a significant amount of grants such as the Community Partnership Grant in the amount of $323,000, the sole purpose of this grant is to enhance relationships with the community while supporting our students, faculty, and staff. Mr. Sornberger will keep the board updated regarding the grants.

Mr. Sornberger also gave a presentation on the FY23 Tentative Budget.  He explained his approach and process to get the revenues and expenditures for the year.  The Tentative Budget will be on public display at the Unit Office at 609 S. Lafayette Street in Newton until formal adoption at the September 19th regular meeting.  

Approval of Budget Hearing for FY 23 Budget for September 19, 2022 at 6:20p.m.

Approval of Updated Risk Management Plan.  The Risk Management Plan has been unchanged from the previous years.  The Board last took action on the plan in August of 2021.

Approval of Board Member Mandy Rieman to serve on the Southeastern Special Education Cooperative Board.

Approval of the Second Reading of Jasper County Unit #1 School Wellness Plan.  This was needed due to an ISBE school lunch program audit for the State of Illinois conducted Spring of 2022.

Approval of Superintendent Sornberger to attend the Title I Conference for the 2022-2023 School Year September 19 through September 21.

Intergovernmental Agreement or MOU with Elite Fitness was tabled until the September 19, 2022 board meeting.

Approval of Corporate Authorization Resolution for Peoples State Bank for District Signature Card.

No Closed Session was needed.

 

Approval of the resignations of Amanda Richey as Ste. Marie Paraprofessional and Becky Johnson as NCHS Night Custodian both effective immediately.

Approval of the resignation of Rickie Steber as Newton Elementary School Counselor effective immediately.

Approval to employ Angela Newlin as a Newton Elementary School Counselor to start with the 2022-2023 school year.  

Approval to employ Allison Harris as a JCJH 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach to start with the 2022-2023 school year.

Approval to employ Lindsay Weber as a Paraprofessional to start with the 2022-2023 school year.

Approval to advertise for an NCHS Night Custodian and JCJH Assistant Cross Country Coach.

Meeting adjourned at 7:22pm. Next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2022 at 6:30pm at the Board Office.
