Grace Kuhl, daughter of Jason and Marie Kuhl, will be showcasing her artistic talents at the Newton Public Library from February 4th through the 24th of February.
When did you first become interested in art?
I became interested in art because of my grandma, who taught me how to paint when I was little. She showed me that art is whatever you make of it and that it’s all about having fun.
What are your favorite medium and your favorite subjects? Why?
My favorite art piece is the Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí. I find it to be a great reminder that all we really have is time, and what we choose to do with it is what defines us as people.
My favorite medium to work with is clay and sculpting. I love making something out of nothing, plus the texture of wet clay feels very nice to the touch. I like making unique cups and bowls out of clay, and at some point I’d like to set up something to sell my work.
What would you like to do after high school?
After high school, I plan on going into the field of art therapy. For the first year, I plan on going to OCC to get my general classes done, then transfer to SIUE for a Bachelor’s in psychology and a Master’s in Art Therapy. I’m not sure where I will end up, but my biggest goal in life is to help people express themselves through art in a meaningful way.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would like to add a thank you to my friends and family for always being there for me!
