Newton Marching Eagles Earn Strong Finish at U of I Competition

The Newton Community High School Marching Eagles turned in a strong performance at the University of Illinois competition Saturday, earning fifth place in their class and seventh overall among 18 bands competing in the Small School session.

Newton, the smallest school competing in Class 2A, faced bands from considerably larger schools and finished just 6.35 points behind the first-place band in its class.

The Marching Eagles are proud of the progress their students have made throughout the season and the growth they have demonstrated through their performances.

The band will host the 35th Annual NCHS Marching Eagles Band Classic on Saturday, October 24, in Newton. The event will feature 14 high school marching bands, with performances beginning at 9:15 a.m. The Marching Eagles are scheduled to perform their exhibition at 2:15 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to come out, fill the stands and cheer on the Marching Eagles as they perform on their home field. After a season of hard work and growth, the students deserve a strong show of hometown support.

Breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at the concession stand. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NCHS Band Boosters.

Newton’s competitive marching season will conclude October 31 at the competition in Oblong.
