
In a quarter final regional match between the Newton Lady Eagles and the Flora Wolfgals, it was Newton who emerged victorious with a final score of 55-19. The leading scorer for Flora was Jones with 7 points, followed by Petterson with 5 points and Jennings with 4 points. For Newton, C. Martin led the team with 16 points, while Kessler contributed 15 points. Other notable players for Newton included K. Martin with 9 points and Barthelemy with 6 points. In terms of scoring breakdown, Newton had 10 two-point field goals, 4 three-pointers, and a total of 7 free throws made. On the other hand, Flora had only 7 two-point field goals and managed to make just 5 out of their 7 attempted free throws. Additionally, Newton dominated in rebounding with Kessler grabbing 10 rebounds, followed by C. Martin with 5 rebounds, and Bennett, Nadler, and Probst each securing 4 rebounds. Bennett also stood out in assists with a total of 4, closely followed by C. Martin with 3 assists. In terms of steals, C. Martin shined again with an impressive 7 steals while both K. The Newton Lady Eagles faced off against the Carmi White County Lady Bulldogs in the semi-finals of regionals. The final score was 41-40, with CWC coming out on top. Leading scorers for CWC were Serefini with 18 points, Smith and Elliott with 8 points each, Simmons with 6 points, and Rager with 1 point. Overall, CWC had a total of 7 two-point field goals, 5 three-point field goals, and made 12 out of 15 free throws. Leading scorers for Newton were C. Martin with 17 points, K. Martin with 10 points, Bennett with 5 points, Kessler with 4 points, and Barthelemy with 4 points. Newton had a total of 14 two-point field goals, 2 three-point field goals, and made 6 out of 12 free throws. Notable stats for Newton include Kessler’s 7 rebounds, C. Martin’s 6 rebounds, and Bennett’s 4 steals and 2 assists.
Coach Brad Harris ends the season with, “I am proud of what this team accomplished this year. Their determination led to improvements every game. This was a tough loss, but the players put forth such a strong effort tonight. Thank you to the seniors – Elley Bennett, Macy Barthelemy, Lilly Kessler, and Emma Nadler.
