Ilene Iona Chesnut age 96, of Dieterich passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Headyville Chrisitan Church with Rev. Carroll Ross officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday in the church. Burial will be in the Headyville Cemetery, rural Dieterich.
Ilene was born on December 3, 1927, in Effingham, Illinois the daughter of Charles and Iona (Kramer) Delaney. Ilene married Bob Chesnut on November 28, 1946. The couple shared seventy-one years together before his passing on September 6, 2018. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Ilene was a cook at West Junior High School for over twenty years.
Ilene was a member of the Headyville Christian Church. In her free time, she enjoyed camping and traveling. Ilene loved spending time with her family.
Ilene will be loved and remembered by her daughter, Carla Kruger of Dieterich; grandsons, Travis (Julie) Kruger of Effingham and Ryan Kruger of Dieterich; great grandchildren, Alexander Kruger, Kara Kruger, Keaton Kruger and Aubree Kruger; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband Bob, son-in-law Wilmer Kruger and sisters Geraldine “Jerry” Hetzer and Doris Young preceded her in death.
