Addyson O’Dell, daughter of Corrine Wilson, will be attending the University of Louisville as a part of the softball team. During her time at NCHS, Addy has been an active participant in activities including basketball, track and the Beverly Bandits.
What made you decide this school was the best fit for you?
I chose Louisville because it’s home. The moment I stepped onto campus I knew this is where I want to start my next chapter. Talking to the coaches and seeing how much they care for their players and how close all the girls are is something that really drew me to the school. Family is what was the most important to me during my recruiting process and that is exactly what Louisville softball is.
How do you feel NCHS has prepared you for this next step in life?
NCHS has taught me life lessons and how to network. Be nice to everybody because they might not be significant in the moment but later on your realize how you can help each other. Also, that sports don’t define who you are and that the person you are determines your worth.
What are at least two life lessons you have learned from sports?
One life lesson I’ve learned from sports would be is that it’s okay to fail. Which is very hard to understand when you play a sport where you’ll fail more times you succeed. Another life lesson I’ve learned is how to win and lose with class. When you win you stay humble because any given day you can lose. When you lose you hold your head up high and learn something from it.
How have your coaches (and assistant coaches) helped prepare you to play at a collegiate level?
My coaches have helped my mental game. They’ve always known my physical ability will be there. They’ve helped me focus and not dwell on mistakes and how to channel emotions to something constructive instead of destructive.
What will you miss the most next year about not being at NCHS?
What I’ll miss the most about not being at NCHS next year is being a kid.
