Board of Education Minutes for December

Following is a summary of minutes of a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Jasper County Community Unit School District No. 1 held on Monday, December 16th, 2024 in the office of the Board of Education.  Board members present were Mr. David Blecha, Mrs. Jackie Schackmann, Mrs. Mandy Rieman, Mrs. Holly Farley and Mr. Bill Meinhart.  Board members absent were Mr. Brady Shull and Mrs. Mandi Utley.   

All votes are considered unanimous unless otherwise noted.

Mandy Rieman called the meeting to order.

Approval to Adopt the Agenda.

Mandy asked for Recognition of Guests and Public Comments.  There were none.

There were no FOIA Requests.

Under the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Sornberger discussed the IASB Joint Annual Conference.  From the conference, the Board attended seminars on student discipline, student development for social emotional learning, classroom pedagogy, school safety, and tax levy requirements.  Mandy Rieman attended the IASB Delegate Assembly.

Approval of the Tax Levy for 2024.

Approval of the Resolution abating a portion of the tax Heretofore levied for the year 2024 to pay debt service on General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2023, of the District.

Approval of a Bid for the Newton Community High School Roof Project from Top Quality Base for $231,300.

Approval to seek bids for the Newton Elementary Roofing Project.

Approval of District Mowing Contract to Griffith’s Lawn Care for $18,500.

No Closed Session was needed.

Approval to hire Jaime Newkirk, Cheryl Scanlan, Abby E. Jansen, Tanya Howard and Steffanie Stark as tutors for the 2024-2025 School Year.

Approval to hire Troy Bierman as the JCJH Head Track Coach.

Approval to hire Andrea Cleaver as the JCJH Assistant Softball Coach.

Approval to hire Jaime Newkirk as the NCHS Assistant Softball Coach.

Approval to advertise for a NES Special Education Position to fill immediately.

Meeting adjourned at 6:53 p.m.  Next regular board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education Office located at 1401 Clayton Avenue.
